Initiative Against Economic Globalization (INPEG)

"INPEG - Prague 2000 is open to all liberal-minded individuals and groups that would like to express their opinions regarding the summit of IMF and WB. We propose this initiative as a common platform which, while maintaining the program autonomy of the separate groups, strengthens their voice even more. Similar gatherings of the institutions of economic globalization are attended by increasing resistance of general public. Let the voice of protests echo also in Prague. Let us face the globalization of capital with the globalization of solidarity."

(Very) Brief History of Resistance

1415: Reformer Jan Hus torched at stake - ignites bloody Hussite Wars.
Bohemia (pre Czech) has argy bargy with various tyrannies - Holy Roman Empire, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Sweden and Germany.
1848: Paris inspired uprising - crushed.
1939: Ditched by Western Allies and annexed by Nazis. After WWII Communist Party takes over.
1968: Prague Spring period of liberalism results in Soviet tanks storming Prague and killing eighty in radio station defence. City folk removed every road sign except ones pointing to Moscow to baffle Soviet invaders.
1989: Mass protests eventually ousts state regime in "Velvet Revolution". Vaclav Havel (reguarly incarcerated protest leader) becomes president - still is. Enter IMF - state assets privatised, golden arches go up, wages go down. Vibrant squatting scene takes off and is resolutely defended.
1998-9: Full-on street parties end in trashed cop cars and Western businesses.
