Convergence Centre
in Praha
As part of our efforts to co-ordinate thousands of people from all across
Europe and beyond, we are opening a convergence centre where we can come
together as a community, share information and visions, make banners,
puppets, flags etc , and train ourselves in things such as legal rights,
basic first aid, street theatre, non violence direct action skills, communication
and more. One aim is to actively involve as many people as possible in
the decision making and in shaping the activities. We will come together
in massive meetings, so everyone can contribute to
working out the details of the actions. Child care will be available at
the convergence centre, so parents can participate as well. We need volunteers
to help make the centre functional so please come prepared to give some
of your time.
The convergence centre will include the following spaces: Large space
for art and supplies, information area, ride and message board, child
care, communication systems room, office, a clinic, kitchen, large room
for meetings, smaller rooms for trainings, small space for chilling out,
legal desk, media desk.
These are some of the co-ordination tasks and roles that we have identified
and that will need volunteers, help and support. They'll give an insight
into what will be going on:
Space co-ordinators: managing the use of the different spaces, know how
to delegate and to whom
Security coordinator: trains team to handle security for entire building,
staffed 24h / day. Develops contingency plans for possible police raid,
fascist confrontation, also does rumour control, and some conflict resolution,
constant staff in each door. Documents police and other harassment, roves
through building.
Cleaning co-ordinator: ensures that space gets swept / vacuumed. Rubbish
and recycling emptied, toilet paper and soap stocked, bathrooms reasonably
cleaned, involves a lot of delegation, being comfortable asking people
who are standing around to help out.
Welcome desk co-ordinators: Multilingual. Gives brief orientation to new
comers to the space, makes and posts daily schedules, solicits donation,
sells merchandising materials, gets people to volunteers and help out
and communicates important information to infocentre after morning meetings.
Medic co-ordinator:
Art space co-ordinator: orients people to tools, space and organisation,
develops street theatre plans with group, helps plan what needs to be
built.
Volunteer co-ordinator: checks in with each working group to find their
volunteer needs, helps match new arrivals from welcome desk to place that
needs help.
Schedulers: collects schedules from each trainer / workshop etc and creates
and posts daily schedules with room labels or locations.
Neighbourhood outreach team: Czech speaking people, to go around to neighbours,
inform them about and invite them to space, explain the purpose of it,
ask them to communicate any problems they have with us, damage control.
Legal assistance: don't need to be on site. Must be available to come
and help if space is raided or severely harrassed.
Food co-ordinator:
Child care volunteers
