AASU ORDER ACTION
AGAINST IMF\WB SLAVERY AGENDA FOR AFRICA
Struggle, Organise and Mobilise your constituency for S26 calls for
Action.
Once again, the IMF\WB, the world financial institution will be meeting
in Prague, Czhe. Republic from 26 - 28 September 2000 to further perfects
their slavery agenda for the third world and developing countries. We
of AASU have no illusion that the recommendation of such a prestigious
imperialist tele-guided meeting will be of any benefit to Africa based
on the
antecedent of IMF. Therefore, we call for a solidarity action on September
26 against IMF\WB satanic agenda.
Dear colleagues, we all know SAP (Structural Adjustment Programme) and
we all remember what SAP have done to our economy today in Africa. A lot
of innocent children have been sent to their sudden grave as a result
of hunger and poverty, many of our young children dropped out from schools
as a result of exorbitant fees as recommended by the IMF. Most families
are left
with no jobs because of the mass retrenchment that are faithfully implemented
by their collaborators in accordance with IMF order. Social services were
cut down; recreational facilities and higher education are now exclusively
reserved for the privilege few in the society.
For clear understanding, let us take Nigeria as an example, Nigeria is
the most populous black nation on earth with abundant human and natural
resources but Nigeria still remain one of the poorest country today as
a result of IMF satanic recommendation since 1988. Recently, IMF
instructed President Obasanjo to hike the pump price of petroleum product,
charge exorbitant fees in our universities and colleges and thus make
education affordable to their cohorts who have stolen Nigeria money. The
commanding height of the economy is being privatised and shared among
the ruling elites and their foreign collaborators.
These are not only peculiar to Nigeria but also Ghana, Tanzania, Togo,
Zimbabwe, Uganda and entire African countries. Presently, the difference
between Ghanaian currency and ordinary paper is like six and half a dozen.
Jubilee 2000 and good people of the world has been calling for the cancellation
of debt of some developing countries. The relentless campaign of Jubilee
2000 is yet to yield any positive result except that it has cause some
political division among the G7 leaders and all powers have now
been surrendered to the IMF as the sole player to supervise the debt relief
of the highly indebted poor countries.
It is the IMF that is to certify the extent to which the indebted countries
have accomplished structural adjustment Programmes before they receive
debt relief. Adding further social policy conditionalties to macro-economic
performance and put more hurdles to poor developing countries to overcome.
It is on these bases that we call on all our member unions and all progressive
forces within the student and youth organisations in Africa for S26 action.
September 26 is the day "Dare to Struggle, Dare to win"
Aluta continua!
